Guitarist of the Month: Andy Vozza II

This month we have the first returning Guitarist of the Month! Last year we had a lovely talk with Andy Vozza about his music and now we sat down for a second time to discuss the publication of his first guitar book. Read more about it and his current projects below.

When was the first time you played rock on the guitar?
I can’t remember precisely. I took my first guitar lesson on the 12th of May 2002, I believe I played my first rock song months after.

Who are some of the most inspirational rock guitarists for you?
My main inspirations are Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour and Jimi Hendrix. However, there are too many to mention. I like to learn something from everyone if it makes sense.

You recently published your first guitar book Master The Art Of Rock Guitar: The Complete Rock/Metal Guitar Method. What topics are covered in the book?
I covered everything from basic chords, rhythm, lead and basic music theory. It’s suitable for both total beginners and those who have played for a few years and want to take the next step.

How did the writing process go?
I first organized the topics, then I wrote them down and lastly I designed graphics, took pictures and recorded audio. What is the best way to make use of the book?
The best way is to go chapter by chapter based on your needs. If you want to improve your knowledge of scales, stick with that section until you are good with them. If you want to learn how to strum, stick with that section. If you are a total beginner, I’d say start from the beginning and follow it. If you are more advanced, focus on the sections that you feel weak at.

How to spot a good guitar book? What do you look for when picking one up?
I think a good guitar book should be filled with examples. It’s hard to tell how to play something with words, you need to demonstrate it. A good guitar book should have a lot of pictures and audio.

Do you plan on writing more instructional books?
I’m planning on expanding it and focusing on exercises. I might release volume 2 next year.

What other project are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on my band Elyn, which is taking most of my energy. We just released a new song called ‘Regret’, a song about procrastination and the fear to take action.

We have enough material to release for the following year. Nothing Else. Time is valuable and I want to stick to what I really want to do nowadays.
